This Walled city is unique and interesting in many senses. It is an amazing place to visit. It has clear impacts of history on it. The walled city of Baku shows the cultural and other impacts of Arabic, Persian, Zoroastrians and Sasanians. The city is said to be as old as 15 centuries. It was said to be there even in the 5th or 6th century. The construction at that time was mostly of defensive nature. There was only one tower in the walled city of Baku at that time. Azerbaijan, a Central Asian Republic state is best known for the well preserved ruins of the walled city of Baku. Many people believe that the name of this city comes from an old Persian name. The Persian version of the name literally means the city where wind blows. The Arabic version of the name also means the same. It is generally believed that the Arabic name of the city actually came from the Persian name. The Persian impacts on the city of Baku are thus the oldest ones. The walled city of Baku is one of the most important places in Azerbaijan. This place has been declared as one of the world Heritage sites by the United Nations. The declaration was made in the year 2000. Due to the walled city of Baku becoming a world know tourist attraction, there are many people who visit Azerbaijan every year. There are few remains of a mosque in the old city of Baku. This shows the impact of Muslim culture on the region. The inner city was declared as world Heritage in Danger as the region was hit by an earthquake in 2000. The area needed reconstruction at a very fast pace and as the reconstruction was being done much slower than expected, UNESCO intervened and declared the region to be in danger.
