Table Mountain of Cape Town, South Africa is included in the Table Mountain national Park. The most important feature of the table mountain is the plateau. The level plateau of Table Mountain is almost 2 miles broad from one side to another. This plateau is an amazing plateau. It acts as a back drop to the city of Cape Town. The eastern end of this plateau is known as the Devil’s peak while the lion’s head lies on the West of the plateau. The plateau also serves as a back drop to the Table Bay harbor area. It produces a unique effect in combination with the signal hill. Towards the eastern end of the plateau you will find the highest point of this plateau. The highest point is actually marked by a stone Cairn which is known as Maclear’s Beacon. The cairn was built in 1865. The reason of the construction of this cairn was a trigonometric survey of the region. The highest point on the plateau is at the height of almost 3,563 feet from the sea level.

There are many cliffs on this mountain. The mountain is made of sand stone basically. This type of sand stone has a lot of quartz in it and the material in general is referred to as Table mountain sand stone. Climbing this mountain is not very difficult. Due to the presence of cliffs and the plateau, there are easy routes for those who are interested in climbing mountains. The northern end of the mountain range which is made of sand stone has the Table Mountain located in it. The Table Mountain and the surrounding mountains form Cape Peninsula’s spine. The range is also called as Twelve Apostles. The range of sandstone hills continues down to the Cape point which is towards the south.

The mountain is covered with flora of all kinds. The animals residing in this region include leopards and snakes. The cable car route is the safest to reach the top and enjoy your visit of this area.
