Petronas Twin Towers

Malaysia happens to be one of those countries where the tourism is very well developed. People from all parts of the world visit Malaysia every year. There are many reasons behind this trend. The first and the most important reason behind this trend is that Malaysia is a naturally beautiful country. It is amazingly beautiful and enjoyable for the tourist. The places like the twin towers are added attractions to the total package. The Petronas Twin Towers are located in Kuala Lumpur, and the place is famous for housing these towers. These towers are also called as twin towers. Some people call them Petronas towers. These towers were considered to be the tallest towers in the world for few years after their construction. Till the year 2004 the towers were the tallest in the world.

Petronas towers were the tallest building of the world for almost six years. The record was broken by the construction of Taipei 101 building. When this building is measured to the top, till the spires the building is taller than the twin towers. The spires are generally considered to be a part of the actual engineering design and thus it is included in the height of the building. Although the World Council, which defines the height of the tall buildings, has four established criteria, but this criteria is the oldest one. Although Taipei 101 stands tallest on the surface of the earth, still Petronas towers are the tallest twin towers of the world.

The two other tall buildings of the earth, Sears Tower and the World Trade Center have 110 floors each. Petronas twin towers have only 88 floors. Sears Tower is apparently taller than Petronas towers but the antenna of Sears Tower is not considered to be the part of its engineering design by the world council of tall buildings. As a result the Petronas twin towers are considered to be ten feet taller than Sears tower.

Petronas towers were actually designed by an architect who was Argentinean-American. His name was Cesar Pelli. The construction of these twin towers was completed in 1998. After their construction the towers were considered to be the tallest building for the next six years. In 2004 Taipei 1012 took away the record. Steel galls and concrete are used in the construction of these towers. The facades display Islamic Art. Malaysia is a Muslim country and as a result you can find the impact of Islamic art on all of the buildings in Malaysia.

These towers have been built in Malaysia at the site where a race track was to be built. This change of plan was because of the depth of bed rock one can find at this site. The depth of bed rock is very important when huge buildings are to be constructed. Keeping the safety of people in their mind, the engineers chose this place to construct the huge building. These towers are very important place to visit if you ever go to Kuala Lumpur. The towers are huge and beautiful and these are bound to impress you.
